Virtual reality (VR) is a unique world that we can immerse ourselves in using special headsets. Pico’s virtual reality headsets are high-quality devices that offer users an exciting experience of immersion in virtual spaces.

Pico Interactive has been producing VR headsets for several years, and they have several models, ranging from basic to premium class. Below is a brief overview of all Pico VR headset models, from the very first to the latest, at the time of writing this review.

Pico Goblin

Release date: 2017.

This compact and easy-to-use model was one of Pico’s first VR headsets. The Pico Goblin was affordable and portable, making it popular among a wide audience. However, inaccurate spatial tracking and a weak processor were the main drawbacks of this model.

Pico G2

Release date: 2018.

The Pico G2 is an improved version of the Goblin with increased power and updated design. The main advantages were the updated processor, more RAM, and an improved controller. However, like its predecessor, it did not support 6DoF tracking.

Pico G2 4K

With a 4K display, the Pico G2 4K provided users with a clearer and brighter image compared to the G2 model. Like the entire G2 headset lineup, this model is more focused on content viewing (360 and VR videos) than on gaming interaction.

Pico G2 4K Enterprise

Release date: 2020.

Pico G2 4K Enterprise is a model specifically designed for corporate users. The headset has a high 4K resolution and provides full access to the Pico app store, allowing for a wide range of professional and educational VR applications.

Unlike the Pico G2 4K, the Enterprise version had a camera added for pass-through mode and some specifications were increased.

The Pico G3 VR headset is designed for business needs. Like the Pico G2, it only supports 3DoF tracking without spatial movement, but has higher computing power.

The Pico G3, with its new PICO OS operating system and greater compatibility with software development tools, will be useful for corporate purposes. This VR headset model should not be considered a gaming device.

Pico Neo

The Pico Neo differed from previous models by supporting 6DoF and coming with two motion controllers, allowing users to move around virtual space with greater freedom.

This model can be called an all-in-one gaming VR headset. However, the tracking of the controllers left much to be desired.

The Neo 2 was a significant update to the Pico lineup. It offered 6DoF for head and hand tracking, allowing users to move and interact with virtual space freely.

The Pico Neo 2 was a direct competitor to the Oculus Quest in terms of specifications, but was positioned as a device for business and developers.

Pico Neo 3

Release date: 2021.

Pico Neo 3 offers improved capabilities, including a new processor and support for 6DoF (six degrees of freedom). It also provides access to the Pico app store and a wide selection of VR games and SteamVR applications.

This model does not have a Displayport connection to a PC, unlike other versions of Pico Neo 3. However, it can be used as a PC VR headset via USB cable or wireless connection.

However, its high cost has made it inaccessible to most consumers. Additionally, Pico Neo 3 Pro only has access to the Pico Store app without support for the SteamVR store.

Additionally, this headset has eye-tracking technology. This is the top model in the Pico Neo 3 lineup, but also the most expensive as it is designed for businesses.

Pico Neo 3 Link

Pico Neo 3 Link was designed as a bridge between stationary and portable VR devices. This model is sold in Europe and supports connection to a PC via Link cable, allowing players to use greater computing power and play more complex VR games available on a PC.

Pico Neo 3 Link is an improved version of Pico Neo 3, which can only connect to a PC via Wi-Fi and USB. It is also significantly cheaper than Pico Neo 3 Pro.

Pico 4

Release date: 2022.

Pico Neo 4 is a huge step forward in the development of VR headsets from Pico. The design of both the headset and controllers has been completely overhauled, and technical specifications have significantly improved.

Neo 4 was developed as a direct competitor to Quest 2 and has surpassed it in some parameters. In particular, Pico Neo 4 uses Pancake lenses, which reduce the size of the device and increase the FOV (field of view). And thanks to the battery being shifted to the back of the headset, a more comfortable weight distribution across the head has been achieved.

Pico 4 Pro

Release date: 2022.

The Pico 4 Pro model expands the functionality of Pico 4 by adding eye and face tracking capabilities. The addition of additional tracking cameras allows for Foveated rendering, which saves computational resources by rendering in high resolution only the area where the gaze is directed. It also allows for automatic interpupillary distance adjustment.

Tracking changes in facial expressions allows for their transmission to a virtual avatar. This functionality is not available in the regular Pico 4 version of the headset.

Pico 4 Pro

Pico 4 Enterprise is the corporate version of Pico 4 Pro. While having similar eye-tracking functionality, Enterprise differs in its operating system.

In this headset model, you will not find pre-installed test games or other software for regular users. Also, a personal account is not required for its use. All of this is done for the convenience of developers. Pico 4 Enterprise is the most expensive version of Pico 4 and is not intended for regular users.
