How to take a screenshot
- Press and hold the back button to open the Oculus menu.
- Look to the left and select “Capture” using the touchpad or controller.
- Select “Screenshot“.
- Wait for the Gear VR to take a screenshot.
After you select “Screenshot”, you will be returned to the game or application that was open. You will see a flashing red dot in the upper right corner of the screen a few seconds before the screenshot is taken and you will hear the shutter sound. You can then view these screenshots in the gallery.
Gameplay Recording
In the past, recording gameplay on the Gear VR required either downloading a screen capture app or using special accessories. Fortunately, that time has passed. Now all you need is your phone, Gear VR, and the app you want to film.
- Press and hold the back button to open the Oculus menu.
- Look to the left and select Remove.
- Select “Video“
After that, you will be returned to the running application. When this happens, you will see a small red dot in the upper right corner of the screen. This means the Gear VR has started recording. To stop recording, press and hold the back button again.
You can find and share your recordings from the Oculus folder on your phone. The distinguishing feature of the new video capture feature is that it is recorded at 1024 x 1024 resolution and not in stereoscopic mode. This makes videos better and more interesting to share than ever before with screen capture apps.
