Master Skyrim VR modding with our guide on Vortex and Nexus. Transform your gameplay for an enhanced virtual reality experience.

Skyrim VR is an immersive experience, but with the help of mods, you can elevate that experience to new heights. This guide will walk you through the process of modding Skyrim VR using Vortex and Nexus, based on the insightful video by Dead Pixel Gaming.

Setting Up Nexus and Vortex

  1. Nexus Account: Begin by heading over to Nexus Mods and creating an account.
  2. Download Vortex: Once logged in, search for Vortex and download it. Install Vortex, which acts as a bridge between Nexus Mods and your game, allowing for easy mod installation.
  3. Linking Vortex to Nexus: After installing Vortex, run it. A prompt will ask you to log in. This will open a browser window with Nexus Mods. Since you’re already logged into Nexus, simply authorize it. This action will link Vortex to Nexus Mods, streamlining the mod installation process. Watch the video (1:07 – 1:57)

Installing Prerequisite Mods

  1. Vrik Player Avatar: This mod is highly recommended. When you choose to install it via Vortex, it will show you the prerequisite mods needed. One of these is the Script Extender.
  2. Script Extender: Navigate to the Script Extender website, ensuring you select the VR version. Download and drag the file directly into Vortex. Once it’s there, click ‘Install’ and then ‘Enable’.
  3. Sky UI: Another prerequisite for many mods. Download it from its respective site and, like the Script Extender, drag and drop into Vortex. Click ‘Install’ and then ‘Enable’. Watch the video (1:57 – 3:07)

Installing Core Mods

  1. VRIK Mod: With the prerequisites in place, return to the VRIK Player Avatar mod on Nexus. Use Vortex to install it. Once downloaded, click ‘Install’ and ‘Enable’ in Vortex.
  2. HIGGS Mod: Another essential mod is the HIGGS Enhanced VR Interaction Mod. Since the Script Extender is already installed, you can directly download the HIGGS mod and link it to Vortex. Install and enable it as before. Watch the video (3:07 – 3:59)

Setting Up the Game Launcher

  1. In Steam, navigate to Skyrim VR, click properties, and then ‘Local Files’.
  2. Click ‘Browse’ to open the game’s installation directory.
  3. Locate the ‘sksevr_loader’ and create a desktop shortcut for it. This is how you’ll launch the modded game. Watch the video (3:59 – 4:23)

Understanding the Mods

  1. VRIK Mod: Transforms you from a pair of floating hands into a full avatar, enhancing immersion.
  2. HIGGS Mod: Allows for enhanced interaction with in-game items.
  3. Plank Mod: Recommended for further immersion, this mod enables weapon collisions with other weapons and objects. Watch the video (4:23 – 5:15)

Resolving Mod Conflicts

Occasionally, mods can conflict with each other. When this happens, a caution sign will appear in Vortex. Clicking on it will allow you to choose the load order of your mods, resolving the conflict.
